Fame of sorts.  Linkspam inside.  Also, vote-poll.

I was just thinking of you by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #1 Sat Nov 10, 2007 at 02:52:39 PM EST
Some Disney channel band, The Jonas Brothers, were singing the Kids of the Future, which was a clear cover of Kim Wilde's Kids in America. I was able to prove it to eleven year old thanks to my Vicecity CD, I hope Rockstar made a little bit from the soundtrack.

I vote somewhere in the middle.  If they forgot it is stupid, if they did it out of spite or some other group trying to claim the fame they're asses.

At the same time it is Manhunt 2, why not whip up some more artificial controversy / PR.

But surely if you work on something, you should get credit for it...

Games programming is the only arena where there's even a chance of getting credit. Not that I dispute codemonkey_uk's right to credit...

Yes and no by Cloaked User (2.00 / 0) #8 Sun Nov 11, 2007 at 10:21:38 AM EST
Some applications have credits screens - Firefox for example has a scrolling list of credits accessible from the "About Mozilla Firefox" option in the help menu, and there used to be an Easter egg in IE 5 that displayed a list of credits.

But yeah, the closest I ever get to being credited is if I work on a particularly high profile website and it's reported in the press as having been produced by my company. Certainly I'll never be named personally. I don't really mind to be honest, but the Manhunt 2 thing sucks.

Hmmm by riceowlguy (2.00 / 0) #5 Sun Nov 11, 2007 at 06:18:22 AM EST
The comment from Jurie that "all the stuff we did is there, just modified and rearranged" gives me pause.  The project I'm working on had a couple of previous developers, no longer with the company, working on it.  I can imagine them saying "all the stuff we did is still there, just modified and rearranged".  Yeah, we modified and rearranged your code so that actually worked.  Should they get credit?  I don't know.  It's a moot point because there are no credits in non-game commercial software.

AFAIK by flowergrrl (2.00 / 0) #6 Sun Nov 11, 2007 at 08:43:47 AM EST
the game was almost ready to ship, and took so long after simply cause the new office had to read other peoples code so much/not knowing if the game should be completed at all.

There was no comment on the work being unsatisfactory/not up to scratch, from what I could tell the company had to cut somewhere, and Vienna literally caught the short straw, to show the staff weren't incompetent, Rockstar did attempt to re-employ at other offices, just no-one was interested after all the crap.

Of course I didnt work there, so I didnt see all the political stuff, this is what I understood out of it as a bystander.

Not a whole team, though by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #7 Sun Nov 11, 2007 at 09:09:24 AM EST
If you move on or are sacked for non performance, then that's your lookout. If the office closes, then I'd say that they owed you.
