Last weekend, and the weekend before, we had some lovely sunny weather, and it gave me a chance to get out and take some pictures of the flowers in the garden, and in my mum's garden.

Photos on Facebook.

Poll Inside: Boy's Names.

Why use facebook for this kind of photo sharing?  Because of the iPhoto exporter, that's why.

Also, re the poll.  No we don't know the gender, we just have less trouble selecting girls names.

Why Fin and not Finn?

I'm just curious as I see Fin as a name in the UK, but only Finn in Ireland. Like that, tt is an anglicisation of Fionn (pronounced something like fyun), one of them mythical hero types.

Samson. by wiredog (4.00 / 1) #5 Wed May 14, 2008 at 07:56:34 AM EST
Love the classics. Plus, it gives him something to say when people tell him to get a haircut.

So as not to get confused with Phineas.
Please not Samson. What happens if he gets to be balding in later life ?

Am I the only one by Breaker (4.00 / 1) #7 Wed May 14, 2008 at 08:12:35 AM EST
Looking at those names, and seeing only two that will not subject your son to continual playground assault?

If that is a risk, he's already screwed on the surname.

My father was teased in school because of his given name constantly so great effort was made in giving me the least teaseworthy name possible. Thus I became a "Steve". They succeeded. I was instead constantly teased for my surname.

There's loads of Finns around here. by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #15 Wed May 14, 2008 at 05:45:03 PM EST
As well as Tobys and Seans.

But then this area's not typical, as there's some 12 year old on the corner whose parents named him Ambrose.

I've not actually met my namesake yet.

We named our son "Avery", a classic boy's name.

Which, apparently, is now a becoming a trendy girl's name. Sigh...

It's the opposite for us by jayhawk88 (2.00 / 0) #9 Wed May 14, 2008 at 10:04:11 AM EST
We have sort of/kind of decided on girls names (though Jenn is not liking one of them as much these days), and not really given much thought to boys names. Well Jenn has, as she's got a whole list, so it's more correct to say that I haven't given much thought to boys names.

Which is OK though since I'm guessing they will be girls anyway. Hopefully find out sometime in the next few weeks.

manly names? Names like Luke, Mark or Dick? Or even, dare I say, Mike?

The only way to get a better boy's name than "Mike" is to include the words "Thunder Fist" in it.
